Created by Dolly Parton, the production was supported by an experienced creative and technical team, including Music Director Kevin Stites, part of the original Broadway team, and Ken Travis, currently A1 Sound Engineer for Aladdin Broadway. Travis collaborated closely with SCAD’s student A1, tuning the system and optimizing the mix for the venue.

This production marked the first implementation of SCAD’s newly designed full Alcons pro-ribbon system configuration, featuring dual center channel arrays, front fills, and under-balcony delay systems to ensure consistent coverage throughout the theater.

Through the Alcons Pro-Ribbon Network, SCAD deployed a total of 24 LR15 systems to complement the venue’s existing LR7 house system. This included units supplied via partner inventory, demonstrating the scalability and accessibility of the Alcons ecosystem.

The system configuration for “9 to 5” included:

• Dual center arrays: 12x LR15 ultra-compact dual-6.5” line-array in two 6-box arrays above the proscenium
• Main L/R arrays: 2x 12-box LR7 micro 6.5” line-arrays with LR7B 12” bass extensions on top
• Low-frequency support: BF181 single 18” and BQ211 21” subwoofer stacks on stage left and right
• Front fills: 6x LR15 across the orchestra pit railing
• Under-balcony fills: 6x LR15 using custom mounting solutions

All systems were time-aligned and controlled by Alcons ALControl software, powered by a combination of S10 and S3 4-channel amplified loudspeaker controllers, with mixing handled via an Avid S6L-24 console.

The installation enables simultaneous operation of different music formats within the venue — without any physical separation between areas.

With more than 20 years of experience in professional sound reinforcement and acoustics, Pro Performance is known for merging these disciplines into cohesive, high-performance concepts. The company has delivered numerous forward-thinking installations in renowned venues such as Flex, Grelle Forelle, Sub, the Loft, das Werk, Praterstraße (PRST) and Subdeck Bratislava.

Project Challenges

The venue unites an après-ski club, restaurant and lounge under one roof. A key challenge was achieving seamless sound coverage across the adjoining après-ski and club zones without physical separation. At the same time, two DJs needed to perform simultaneously without sonic interference.

This required a precisely designed and carefully tuned concept that would maintain consistent sound quality while enabling independent programming in each area.

Tailor-Made Audio Solution

Under the direction of Managing Director Wolfgang Sauter, Pro Performance developed a customized sound reinforcement concept tailored to the venue’s specific needs.

A total of 34 loudspeakers from the versatile Alcons VR Series were deployed: 15 VR5 high-output compact loudspeakers (featuring the RBN202rs 2” Pro-Ribbon driver), 11 VR12/90i systems (with RBN601 6” Pro-Ribbon driver), and 8 VR8 compact point-source loudspeakers (equipped with the RBN401 4” Pro-Ribbon driver).

The Alcons VR systems are ideally suited for nearfield applications where high output, exceptional sound quality and homogeneous coverage are essential. The loudspeakers were strategically positioned to ensure even sound distribution throughout the various zones. The VR12/90i systems serve as the main speakers in the central areas, while the VR8 units are deployed in bar areas and as fills. For the gallery and seating niches, Pro Performance selected the ultra-compact VR5.

The setup is complemented / was further enhanced by 20 pcs. Pro Performance’s custom-built 18” subwoofers—Sauter’s go-to solution when specific bass requirements and spatial constraints demand maximum flexibility.

Amplification and Control

The system is powered by six Alcons Sentinel10 amplified loudspeaker controllers, renowned for their sonic accuracy, along with three subwoofers. System control and signal distribution are handled by two Xilica Solaro FR-D matrix processors, providing a total of 64 Dante channels. This setup enables flexible and precise sound adjustment across the venue’s different zones and operational requirements.

The result is a dynamic yet perfectly balanced audio experience that fully meets the high expectations of the venue.

At ISE 2026, Alcons Audio will once again present its award-winning Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience, this year centred around the recently introduced Alcons M-series reference monitors. Since their introduction, the MR pro-ribbon monitors have drawn strong reactions from engineers and designers alike, setting a new benchmark in analytical monitoring through exceptional dynamics, resolution and spatial accuracy.

The immersive system design is complemented by Alcons’ established CRMS cinema reference systems, underlining the company’s “one-reference: one-experience” philosophy across professional and high-end residential applications.

Exhibiting at booth G500 in Hall 7, Alcons will also showcase the latest additions to its loudspeaker portfolio. Among these is the GR20, the first model in the new G-series of high-performance generic point-source solutions. Designed for both portable and permanent use, the GR20 combines a proprietary RBN602rs 6” pro-ribbon driver with two custom-designed 10” Neodymium mid-bass woofers in a vertically symmetrical clamshell configuration. The front-loaded GB181 delivers highly accurate bass and sub-bass reproduction with maximum output and minimal distortion, achieved through a new-generation 18” long-excursion transducer with a large dual 4.5” voice-coil Neodymium motor. The Flow-Vent™ port design further increases output while reducing port compression. Flexible deployment options include ground-stacked, pole-mounted and cardioid configurations, offering effective rearward low-frequency rejection.

In the Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience demonstration room, all three M-series reference monitor models are featured in a 9.X.6 configuration, optimized by Walter Fortmüller of Zenzaru Design and Optimization. Processing is handled by the new Trinnov Altitude CI, with a fully AES3 digital signal chain driving more than 30 channels of Alcons Director and Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controllers. Low-frequency reproduction is provided by sealed CRMS-LFE18sl v2 large-format reference subwoofers using cascaded bass management.

Visuals are delivered by a Sony VPL-GTZ380 10,000-lumen 4K laser projector, combined with a DreamScreen Studio X1 CinemaScope acoustically transparent screen.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Schloss Schönbrunn is one of Europe’s most treasured cultural landmarks. Once the summer residence of the Habsburg emperors, its baroque gardens and ornate façades now host select open-air events. Performing within such a historic and densely populated setting requires an exceptionally controlled sound system—capable of wide dynamic range, exact projection, and minimal off-site spill.

With more than two decades at the forefront of Europe’s electronic music scene, Paul Kalkbrenner is celebrated for his cinematic approach to techno and his emotionally charged live shows. Known for hits like Sky and Sand and Aaron, his performances feature complex layers of melody and rhythm, demanding absolute clarity and precision from the sound system. Every detail in his mixes must translate seamlessly to audiences of tens of thousands—a benchmark that has made Kalkbrenner synonymous with audiophile-grade electronic performance.

To meet these requirements, Austrian Alcons distributor Pro Performance, in collaboration with rental partner JUR, deployed an extensive Alcons system. The sound supply and coordination were managed through The Ribbon Network, Alcons Audio’s international dry-hire collaboration platform that enables rental partners to scale and share identical systems worldwide.

At the core of the system were 48x LR28 2x 14” 3-way large-format line-array modules and 36x LR24 2x 12” 3-way mid-sized arrays, forming the main PA system. Supporting low-frequency extension and control were 44x BC543 high-output triple 18” cardioid subwoofers, configured to achieve focused bass coverage with exceptional rear rejection — a key factor in limiting disturbance to nearby areas.

16x LR18 2x 8” 3-way compact arrays and 6x RR12 12” point-source systems provided delay and outfill coverage, while 8x VR8 compact 8” monitors, 2x LR18B 18” bass modules, and 2x WR20 stage monitors handled front-fill and stage monitoring duties.

The concert also served as part of a feasibility study by the Schönbrunn Group, the organisation responsible for the operation of the palace, evaluating the possibility of hosting future large-scale concerts at the site. The highly focused projection and controlled coverage of the Alcons system proved instrumental in meeting the Schönbrunn Group’s strict sound emission criteria. At the same time, the audience experienced the full impact and detail of Kalkbrenner’s performance — validating the feasibility of future concerts at the palace.

Alex Lewin, Paul Kalkbrenner’s sound engineer, commented: “It was almost too clear for this kind of music!”

Feedback from concert-goers, production teams, and the Schönbrunn Group itself was overwhelmingly positive, with the pilot event confirming that world-class live performances can be successfully integrated into this unique heritage environment.

Operating in passive-filtered tandem with the pro-ribbon, the system achieves high output and dynamic performance from a single amplifier channel.

As part of the Alcons ecosystem, the GR20 is powered by an ALC amplified loudspeaker controller. Factory presets incorporating VHIR™ processing, 192 kHz AES3 digital inputs and audiophile-grade amplifier stages ensure true 1:1 sound reproduction, maximum efficiency and system reliability.

Following its prototype debut at Amsterdam Dance Event 2024 and multiple trade-show appearances, the production-ready GR20 was first deployed at the recent Amsterdam Dance Event 2025; In the Dolby Atmos House a full GR20 system in 7.1.6 configuration reinforced the latest immersive recordings of top EDM artists, of which Armin van Buren’s “Piano” was of specific relevance, as it was mixed on the Alcons C-series system at Martin Garrix’ STMPD Studios.

The system will be showcased at the upcoming ISE 2026.

Alcons Audio is making a strong impact in the French city of Orléans, where its pro-ribbon sound systems are delivering exceptional audio performance in the state-of-the-art Arena du CO’Met. As part of the venue’s facilities, Alcons Audio sound system was selected to provide high-fidelity sound reinforcement for a wide range of events.

The multi-purpose Arena du CO’Met is part of the Centre Orléans Métropole, a complex of three major venues on the edge of the city. Comprising the arena, an exhibition centre and a convention centre, the venues are located on the banks of the River Loire and form a striking impression for travellers entering Orléans from the south.

The arena is designed to host live music and indoor sports, including athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, handball, judo and volleyball, with Orléans Loiret Basket its resident team. Featuring a 3000m2 balcony and up to 10000 seats in modular blocks, Alcons Audio’s French distributor Audiolead proved that the LR15 ultra-compact pro-ribbon line-array was the right choice to deliver the high quality audio experience demanded by the city.

“Orléans Métropole and Orleans City Council wanted a sound and video installation which would match American standards,” says Audiolead’s Bruno Ghidionesco. “The sound system had to deliver sound pressure, seamless coverage and intelligibility which would ensure every seat in the arena enjoyed the best sound.”

Jimmy Bonnaud of Poitiers-based AV consultant MTCE Consulting was asked to invite systems integrators to submit acoustic simulations and costings for the project, while Audiolead organised listening tests of a range of sound reinforcement systems for MTCE and the city council’s technical teams.

“While some proposals offered lower cost options, several did not reach the required performance level for the room in all configurations,” says Bruno. “The listening tests and acoustic simulations showed that the new Alcons LR15 would deliver all the qualities that were asked for.”

The installed system comprises six flown arrays to cover the audience seating and balconies, each comprising eight LR15/90 or nine LR15/120 ultra-compact double 6.5” line-array and two LR15B ultra-compact 15” line-array bass modules, plus six BF362 mkII high output double 18” subwoofers suspended around the centre cube.

Four VR12 mid-sized 12” versatile pro-ribbon monitors are used for fills in the top audience corners, while two more arrays, each of three LR15/90, cover the central play area. The system is managed by nine Sentinel10 4x 2.500W amplified loudspeaker controllers and can be reconfigured according to the demands of each event, including changing the height of the flown arrays.

The installation was overseen by MTCE Consulting’s Kevin Bonnaud, with system commissioning by Jean-Marie Hervet and Gilles Thébault of Bourgueil-based AGT.

“We have worked with Alcons for over 16 years and knew that the new LR15 would be the perfect solution for such a venue where the highest sound quality was demanded. However, those unfamiliar with the company’s pro-ribbon solutions were surprised at how good it sounds; These included the Orléans Métropole staff and a number of sound engineers, including the Harlem Globetrotters’ Donny Thomas. They were very impressed by its compactness and the quality of every musical source we put through the system,” says Bruno.
