PRG Harnesses The Power Of LR28 At Prolight+Sound 2018

April, 2018

One of the highlights of the annual Prolight+Sound trade fair is the presence of the Production Resource Group (PRG). As well as spectacular demonstrations of the latest lighting and sound technologies, the company’s PRG Live Entertainment Awards is the traditional curtain-raiser to the event at Frankfurt Messe. This year an Alcons Audio LR28 larger-format pro-ribbon line-array will ensure that the sound is every bit as memorable as the visuals.

As one of the world’s biggest technical production companies. PRG knows how to impress audiences. Renowned for working with the highest profile artists on shows that both look and sound spectacular, the company demands the very best from the audio systems that it works with. Visitors to both the PRG Live Entertainment Awards and the company’s demonstrations in the venue’s Festhalle throughout Prolight+Sound will discover that the LR28 is just that – the best!

“We are always very keen to support new innovations and the LR28 takes pro-ribbon technology into both new areas and a new era. We look forward to show and award visitors hearing the reality of high resolution sound at high SPLs.”, Klaus Rahe, PRG Director Creative Services.

The audio system for both events will comprise 20 Alcons LR28/80 modules and four LR28/110 wide dispersion modules, plus 18 BC543 very high output cardioid subwoofers. In addition, LR7 micro line-array modules and VR8 compact versatile monitors will act as fills, with 12 RR12 point-source array modules arranged in L-C-R clusters for nearfield. The system will be powered and controlled by 24 Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controllers, housed in 10 AST3 armoured sentinel transporters.

An Alcons LR18 compact mid-size line-array system, with BQ211 compact high-output subwoofers, will also be in use at the Live Entertainment Awards after party.

“LR28 has already been proved in the field, with its success showing that pro-ribbon technology can be successfully scaled up for large tours and festivals. Not only is LR28 as loud as other systems, it is much more dynamic and it’s also exceptionally controllable for outdoor venues where noise spill is a significant concern,” says Alcons Audio co-founder Tom Back.

“We’re very happy to have Alcons on board at the PRG Prolight+Sound demonstrations and at the Live Entertainment Awards this year,” says Klaus Rahe, PRG Director Creative Services. “We are always very keen to support new innovations and the LR28 takes pro-ribbon technology into both new areas and a new era. We look forward to show and award visitors hearing the reality of high resolution sound at high SPLs.”

As well as delivering a powerful and remarkably high quality soundtrack for PRG, the Alcons LR28 will also be available to view and discuss on the Alcons Stand B36, Hall 3.1 at Prolight+Sound, alongside the company’s other patented, pro-ribbon audio solutions.

“The general perception is that pro-ribbon technology is unsuitable for audiences of several thousand people,” says Tom. “LR28 proves that belief is completely false. It also shows that it is possible for the same audio technology to be as good for a 40,000 seat arena as it is for a four-seat home cinema.”

Prolight+Sound 2018 takes place at Frankfurt Messe from 10th – 13th April, with the PRG Live Entertainment Awards taking place on 9th April.
