Bruno Tarrière Selects Alcons For Solo & Co Studios

Award-winning re-recording mixer and sound designer Bruno Tarrière has chosen Alcons Audio’s pro-ribbon monitoring systems for his new Solo & Co film mixing studio in Ivry-sur-Seine, south of Paris. The installation is the first Alcons-equipped film mixing studio in the French capital region.

Supplied and supported by Laurence Claydon of Mill Road Technology Ltd, the studio required a high-performance 9.1.6 monitoring system integrated with a Trinnov Altitude CI processor for immersive audio calibration and control. A key requirement was the ability to deliver consistent monitoring accuracy across a wider listening area than conventional studio systems.

Tarrière first encountered Alcons while mixing a feature film at Bleat Studio in London.

“I listened to an Alcons system for the first time when I went to mix a film at Bleat Studio in London. I was immediately struck by the very wide angle of the sweet spot, and knew this was the system I wanted for my own work.”

The installation features three Alcons CRMS MkII Cinema Reference Monitors for the left, center and right screen channels. Surround coverage is provided by eight CRS8 Reference Surrounds and six CRMS Compact Reference Surrounds for immersive overhead reproduction. Low-frequency performance is delivered by one CB362 dual 18-inch subwoofer and two CB151slFV shallow-profile subwoofers, all powered by three Director 6 DSP amplifiers.

For Tarrière, the system’s performance extends beyond technical specifications.

Since 1987, Tarrière has worked on more than 200 feature films and documentaries, earning César Award nominations for Léon and Pacifiction, and César wins for Jeanne d’Arc and Le Concert, and many other international Awards. His credits include internationally acclaimed productions by directors such as Luc Besson (“Léon”), Emir Kusturica, Asghar Farhadi, Zhang Yimou, James Ivory, Oliver Stone, Radu Mihaileanu , Albert Serra, and Jiang Wen.

As the first Paris-based film mixing facility to deploy Alcons monitoring, Solo & Co not only sets a new reference for immersive film sound production in the region, but also represents another important milestone for Alcons’ growing presence in the global post-production market.
