Releasing Significant Simulation/GLL updates

Alcons Ribbon Calculator

The Alcons Ribbon Calculator™ is Alcons’ line-array simulation and set-up tool, turning the Alcons line-arrays and line-source columns into a precision instrument. Instead of developing a proprietary tool, Alcons decided to commit to standardised simulation platform.

“We always pay highest attention to the accuracy of the non-manipulated files, to give the user honest and reliable data that can be verified in real-life.” Philip “Dr. Phil” de Haan, Alcons Audio’s head of R&D

Not only to have optimised integration between line-array set-up tool and acoustical project simulations, but also to have a platform where users can compare different systems from different manufacturers.

We’ve just finalized a significant update, introducing a series of revised and new GLL’s.
First of all there is a changed filename structure which leads to uniformity and more user convenience. Important new and updated GLL files are accessible on our simulation page for immediate download.  Most important new GLL’s are added for the BF121 compact subwoofer and our new point source column speaker QRP20. On top of that we’ve added a series of cardioid GLL’s for our ‘BF’ and ‘BQ’ series subwoofers.

Philip “Dr. Phil” de Haan, Alcons Audio’s head of R&D: “The simulation program is an important tool for users to visualize the projection performance of our systems. We always pay highest attention to the accuracy of the non-manipulated files, to give the user honest and reliable data that can be verified in real-life.

Phil continues: ”It was a challenge to capture the cardioid performance of our subwoofers in the simulation program, with a rearward rejection of up to 42dB. To get as close as possible and also to make life easier for the user , we pre-configured stacks of three cabinets in the GLL’s of the B-series subwoofers. We’re happy to say that real-life performance exceeds that of the simulation outcome; Completely in line with Alcons Audio’s philosophy “To be rather than to seem”!

 A summary of all changes;

  • Filename structure altered to ‘VX_XX’  for all GLL files
  • Updated GLL files: LR18, LR24, LR28. Now including the LR18/120, LR24/120 and LR28B
  • New GLL files: BF121 and QRP20
  • Separate cardioid GLL files for all ‘BF’ and ‘BQ’ subwoofers
