The WR20 is a 2-way high performance stage monitor sound system, combining the highest sound quality with very high SPL capabilities in a compact and unobtrusive form factor. It brings Alcons’ well-recognized sonic signature sound to live-sound monitoring applications.

The system was designed to obtain a 1:1 reproduction of the original sound source with a completely neutral response. The objective was to create the best reference for a perfect performance, regardless of the application; from intelligible speech, to delicate classical music and jazz, up to balls-to-the-wall pop and rock performances. In any acoustical environment.

Being the first Alcons dedicated stage monitor ever, the latest proprietary technologies and developments have been included, such as; pro-ribbon mid-high frequency driver, Active-Coil™ low-mid frequency transducer technology, VelocityVent™ venting, VHIR™ -processing, a.o.

Sharing these technologies with other Alcons sound systems, offers one single, scalable audio reference from recording to mastering to playback and large-scale delivery, for any type of source material and in any size of application: One reference; One experience.

The best reference through the pro-ribbon transducer

Focal point of the WR20 system is the pro-ribbon transducer; By implementing Alcons’ proprietary pro-ribbon transducer technology for the reproduction of mid and high frequencies, an ultra-low distortion is combined with a very high dynamic range.

This technology is the real-world alternative for any mid-high frequency transducer. The RBN pro-ribbon mid-high frequency drivers reproduce the original sound without adding any coloration or distortion. Input = output, just louder!

The R&D team of Alcons Audio, led by Philip “Dr. Phil” de Haan, has a 30+ year background in the research and development of pro-ribbon transducer technology; This has resulted in numerous patents and pending-patents, through which Alcons Audio can be seen as leader in this technology.

Unique ultra-low distortion 1:1 sound reproduction

The Alcons RBN702rs pro-ribbon driver features a wide-band operating range from 1 kHz to 20 kHz, making it the perfect transducer solution in the 2-way stage monitor design of the WR20.

Due to the lack of a compression chamber and the light weight diaphragm, the pro-ribbons have up-to-90% less distortion than any conventional mid/high transducer, resulting in a perfect speech intelligibility, without any time-smear-induced listening fatigue.

Maximum gain-before-feedback

The very-fast impulse response of Alcons’ pro-ribbon technology, in combination with the driver’s flat frequency response, caters for a 3 to 6 dB higher gain-before-feedback, even with the most sensitive microphones. Without the need for steep tonal corrections, the original signal remains intact, as it was intended.

Virtually “infinite” dynamic headroom

The pro-ribbon’s 7” voice-coil has a massive true power handling of 1500W (200msec = 10x AES standard) with a 1:15 RMS-to-peak ratio; This results in a unique dynamic headroom reserve, even under the highest outputs.

It combines the power to cut through the noise, with the elegance to reveal even the finest detail.

Superb directivity control

The multiple-patented (H 45 x V 60-degrees) dispersion of the RBN702 offers a very controlled and consistent projection up to the highest frequencies. Mounted in a symmetrical tight-pack configuration with the two woofers, the projection control is extended down to the lower frequencies, while maintaining a relative small footprint.

The WR20 is part of a complete eco system with a dedicated power and processing platform with ALControl™ remote-control, power-, signal- and transport logistics, high-resolution ARC™ 3D-simulation software and a choice of different optional subwoofer systems.

The WR20 is a 2-way passive filtered high performance stage monitor sound system. lt contains the RBN702rsr pro-ribbon transducer for mid and high frequencies and double 10" for the low/mid frequencies with VelocityVent™ loading. The system has a horizontal dispersion of 45-degree and a vertical dispersion of 60-degree.

Amplified loudspeaker controller

The Sentinel is the “engine” for the WR20 system; A 4-in/4-out dedicated and upgradeable DSP drive processor, with 192kHz capable AES3 inputs, touch screen and multi-color encoder control and 4 audiophile amplifier stages totaling more than 10kW of output power. Signal Integrity Sensing™ dynamic cable-length compensation, auto-redundant power supplies, modular amp/SMPS design.

ALControl™
Remote control software

ALControl™ is Alcons’ proprietary ALC software program, to control and monitor individual or multiples of Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controllers, that can be accessed from anywhere within a network. Features include off-line, pre-production configuration, auto-detect, extensive monitoring and control options and auto-update.

ARC™
Simulation software

ARC™ (Alcons Ribbon Calculator) is the GLL-based simulation software for the Alcons array systems. Based on actual system measurement output data, the high measurement resolution (up to 1-degree accuracy) offers horizontal + vertical modelling, turning the WR20 into a true precision tool.
